NOAH Great Voyage 1/8/05 Results

Kenta Kobashi & Tamon Honda VS Yoshihiro Takayama & Bison Smith Kobashi & Takayama start off exchanging chops and elbow strikes. Kobashi ducks a high kick and slams Takayama, but the big man pops right up and gives Kobashi a slam of his own! The former GHC champion then gets right up and gives the former IWGP/NWF champion a big backdrop and follows it with a legdrop! Back to their feet and Takayama reverses an Irish whip and connects with a big jumping knee before tagging in Bison and giving Kobashi a double suplex. Kobashi & Bison brawl out on the floor and Bison gets whipped into the guardrail and hiptossed on the floor. Back in the ring, Bison gets control and gives Kobashi a big delayed vertical suplex. Bison tags in Takayama, but Kobashi manages to make the tag to Honda. All four men brawl in the ring for a while before the referee gets back control of the situation. Honda escapes a belly-to-belly attempt by Takayama, but gets hit with a big knee instead, and Takayama follows with an armbar, but Honda manages to reach the ropes. Takayama lays in a few elbow shots, but Honda quickly grabs him in a standing side crossface! Takayama reaches the ropes, but Honda tosses him back with a belly-to-belly suplex! Honda quickly locks on the side mount crossface again, and Bison makes the save, but Kobashi comes in and takes out Bison. Takayama takes the opening to give Honda a big kick followed by a double arm suplex. Both men tag out and Bison catches Kobashi off the ropes with a lariat and follows with a snap suplex. Kobashi reverses an Irish whip and knocks down Bison with a flying shoulder block. Kobashi connects with several chops and tries for a half-nelson, but Bison escapes and gives him and nadoa sweep before tagging Takayama. Takayama lands a few hard shots to Kobashi who retaliates taking him down with a big shoulder block before making the tag to Honda, who immediately slams down Takayama with a belly-to-belly suplex. Dead End by Honda but Takayama kicks out! The former IWGP champion lands a big boot to Honda’s face before tagging Bison in. Bison connects with a big lariat on Honda, and drops him with a double-arm choke-bomb for a 2 count. Honda lands an elbow and makes the tag to Kobashi, but he gets caught by a quick nadoa-sweep, followed by a diving shoulder tackle. Kobashi comes back with a Russian leg sweep, but Bison counters a suplex attempt into one of his own and tags in Takayama. They double team Kobashi, which causes Honda to rush in and give Takayama a release German-suplex! Kobashi takes the advantage and gives Takayama a big suplex and tags in Honda, but he gets caught by a big kick and Takayama tags out. Bison tries for a powerbomb, but Honda powers him over and locks on the side-mount head lock. Honda releases the hold and takes down Bison with a bulldog headlock. Honda then sets up Bison on the top rope and drops him with a Dead End off the top! Tag to Kobashi and he takes down Bison with a running neck breaker drop and makes the cover for a 2 count. Takayama tags in and lays several big knees to Kobashi before slamming him down and giving him a leg drop. Takayama then delivers a big Dynamic Knee. Both men tag out and Bison lands a big lariat on Honda. Honda catches Bison off guard with a Rolling Olympic Hell cradle, but only gets a 2 count. Bison comes back and gives Honda the Bison-tenial, but doesn’t make the cover! Honda retaliates with several head butts and tags Kobashi back in. Bison escapes a half-nelson attempt and tags in Takayama, who hammers down Kobashi and gives him a double-arm suplex, but Kobashi gets up and gives him a spinning back chop followed by a HUGE lariat! He makes the cover but Takayama gets a foot on the ropes. Takayama manages to block a second Lariat and gives Kobashi a big head kick before tagging out. Bison tries for a German suplex, but Kobashi counters it into a dangerous backdrop and makes the tag to Honda! Honda and Bison trade German suplex attempts, and Honda wins out taking down Bison with a Rolling Olympic Hell head lock! Bison reaches the ropes to break the hold. Honda then connects with a big lariat in the corner and whips Bison into the ropes, catching him as he comes out with a Tamon’s Powerbomb and gets the 3-count as Kobashi holds off Takayama! GHC Tag Team Titles: Mitsuharu Misawa & Yoshinari Ogawa VS Jun Akiyama & Makoto Hashi Misawa & Akiyama start off by trading strikes, and Misawa catches Akiyama off the ropes with a flying lariat. Akiyama gets up and slams Misawa before tossing him to the outside and giving him a big baseball slide. Misawa gets back in the ring and tags in Ogawa. Akiyama escapes a backdrop attempt, and gives Ogawa a big jumping knee which knocks him out of the ring! Akiyama follows him out and gives him a slam on the concrete, but Ogawa reverses an Irish whip and sends Akiyama into the guardrail. They brawl a bit more and Ogawa hits a enzuguiri. Both men get back in the ring and tag out. Hashi escapes a quick Tiger Driver attempt by Misawa and tries for a suplex, but Misawa floats over and lands a few elbow strikes and again tries for the Tiger Driver, but Hashi powers him over into a pin and gets a quick 1 count. Misawa lands a snapmare followed by a deep elbow hammer to the forehead. He then hits a big running elbow strike off the ropes and tags in Ogawa. Ogawa gets cocky and taunts the crowd, but Hashi takes the advantage and gives him a headbutt before tagging Akiyama in, but he gets caught by a drop toe hold and Misawa comes in and gives him an elbow drop! Figure-four headlock by Ogawa, but Hashi breaks it up. Ogawa tags in Misawa, and Akiyama unleashes a barrage of elbows and kicks on him before tossing him out of the ring! Akiyama follows him out and tries for a slam, but Misawa floats over and gives him backdrop on the floor! Hashi tags in, but is met by a back elbow strike and Misawa tags Ogawa in. Misawa hits another big running elbow and Ogawa gives him jumping backdrop. Ogawa tries a Tiger Driver, but Hashi powers out, whips Ogawa into the corner and follows him in with a jumping heel kick! Hashi gives Ogawa a big lariat and tags Akiyama in, who gives him a big backdrop of his own and locks on the King Crab Hold! Misawa makes the save and they double team Akiyama for a while. Akiyama escapes a backdrop attempt and gives Ogawa a low dropkick followed by a running lariat. Akiyama covers and gets a 2 count. Ogawa gives Akiyama a big right hand punch and tags in Misawa. Ogawa hits a backdrop for good measure, and Misawa follows with a running elbow strike for a 2 count. Hashi hits Misawa from behind with a lariat, and Akiyama locks on the King Crab Hold! Misawa reaches the ropes to break the hold. The two former GHC champions exchange strikes and Akiyama catches Misawa off the ropes with a big jumping knee. Hashi tags in and he slams Misawa’s face to the mat with a jumping face crusher, followed by a headbutt to the midsection, a big lariat and a big backdrop. Misawa comes back and lands a few hard elbow strikes and tag Ogawa in who whips Hashi in the corner and gives him a big running back elbow. Ogawa lands a side Russian leg sweep and locks on a Scorpion Death Lock! Hashi reaches the ropes to break the hold, then gives Ogawa a headbutt and tags in Akiyama, but he gets caught by a quick running knee to the gut! Ogawa goes up top and lands a double foot stomp. He tags in Misawa and they give Akiyama a double backdrop. Misawa goes up top and hits a frog splash, but Akiyama kicks out at 1! Misawa then drops Akiyama on his head with the Tiger Driver ’91, and hits a second frog splash for the pin as Ogawa holds off Hashi! After the match, Akiyama commented that he was embarrased for losing again, and embarrased that STERNESS lost all their matches tonight. He announced STERNESS would make an excursion to improve their skills and come back to NOAH stronger than ever. GHC Heavyweight Title: Minoru Suzuki VS Akira Taue Suzuki lands several quick chops and low kicks. He tries for a front neck lock, but is easily tossed over by Taue. Suzuki quickly scrambles to his feet and takes down Taue to the mount position. Suzuki tries for an chiken wing arm lock, but Taue rolls Suzuki over and steps away from his guard. Suzuki tries to take him down again, but Taue manages to escape. Taue hits a big chop, followed by a coconut crush, and Suzuki retaliates with a kick to the head while on his back! Suzuki takes down Taue again, but the big man lays several slaps in from the guard position, and Suzuki lets him up. Suzuki ducks a high kick and locks on a rear sleeper, but Taue breaks the hold and tosses Suzuki to the outside! Suzuki gets back in the ring and takes down Taue with a ground headlock. They get to their feet and Taue takes Suzuki down with a big lariat followed by a huge jumping face kick! Taue tries for the nadoa otoshi, but Suzuki escapes and gives him a running knee to the gut, and locks on an armbar! Taue reaches the ropes to break the hold, and as soon as he’s up to his feet, takes down Suzuki with a lariat! Suzuki back to his feet and lands several slaps and low kicks, but gets hiptossed by Taue. The challenger again tries for the nadoa, but Suzuki escapes, so Taue lands a barrage of overhand chops to the champion. Taue catches a kick, but Suzuki hits a straight punch to the face, taking down big Taue. Taue gets back to his feet and tosses over Suzuki with a double-arm front suplex, followed by a HUGE release German! Suzuki manages a single-leg takedown and locks on the sleeper that put out Kobashi! But Taue manages to reach the ropes! Suzuki tries for a piledriver, but Taue escapes. Suzuki gives him a knee strike followed by a big running knee off the ropes to the mid-section. Taue gets to his feet and lauches Suzuki to the outside, and follows him out giving him a big backdrop on the floor! He then follows with a big chop and a nadoa otoshi on the floor! Suzuki barely manages to crawl back in the ring as the referee’s count reaches 18. Suzuki manages a comeback with a barrage of middle kicks, followed by another running knee to the gut. The champion is physically exhausted, and Taue takes the opening to try a Dynamic Bomb, but Suzuki rolls through into a leglock! Taue manages to reach the ropes to break the hold. Suzuki lands a big kick followed by a front neck lock, but Taue again reaches the ropes. Taue tries for a nadoa again, but Suzuki escapes it with some elbow strikes and tries for the piledriver, but Taue powers him over. Big time DDT by Taue! He hits the I AM TAUE, but Suzuki gets a foot on the ropes! Suzuki hits a kick to Taue, then hits the Cradle Piledriver! But he’s too tired to make the cover! Taue gets back to his feet and hits Suzuki from behind with a high head kick, he then hits the Dynamic DDT and makes the cover to pick up the win! NEW GHC CHAMPION!
