Differ Cup Day-1 results

The opening round of the Differ Cup hosted by Dragon Gate was an incredible day of competition as teams from various promotions in Japan went at it in a single elimination tournament. The night started off with the former Michinoku Pro rudo team of Dick Togo & Minoru Fujita beating the All Japan team of Taichi Ishikari & Ryuji Hijikata in an incredible back and forth battle. Ishikari showed great form and resiliance here, kicking out of both Togo & Fujita's best moves before finally falling to Togo's trademark sentob bomb. The next match saw the former Osaka Pro tag team championship team of Billy Ken Kid & Tigers Mask pulling off an upset of sorts as they defeated the New Japan team of Katsushi Takemura & Wataru Inoue. Takemura tried some of his old-school rudo tactics, while Inoue relied on his technical expertise, but the future aces of Osaka Pro controlled most of the match and managed to get the win when BKK hit a beautiful German suplex hold on Takemura after a fast paced match. Dragon Gate's home team of DO-FIXER members Genki Horiguchi & Dragon Kid advanced to the semi-finals over Mexico's AAA team of Juventud Guerrera & Ricky Marvin. This was a great back and forth contest filled with high-flying and fast paced action. Mr. HAGE Genki Horiguchi using the big diving body press to score the win on Juvi. The last quarterfinal match of the night literally stole the show as the NOAH team of Tiger Emperor & Makoto Hashi defeated the Zero-One MAX team of Wataru Sakata & Yoshihito Sasaki in an incredible war of atrician that went over thirty minutes! Easily the best match of the night as brawled in and around the ring, both teams wanting that last spot in the semi-finals. They took the best each other had to dish out, before Tiger Emperor managed to score the win with a big diving Rider Kick off the top on Yoshihito Sasaki to finally end the match, and they would still have to return later for the semis! The first semi-final saw the Osaka Pro tandem of Billy Ken Kid & Tigers Mask overcome the rudo team of Togo & Fujita in another big brawl match. Togo was a tough obstacle to overcome due to his power and rudo prowness, but BKK managed to score the win on Fujita with a spinning heel kick out of nowhere as Tigers kept Togo pre-occupied. The OPro team go on to the finals, whereas the rudo team are now in the running for third place, and will face the team that doesn't advance in the second semi final. Could Dragon Gate retain the Differ Cup? It seems very likely now that Genki Horiguchi & Dragon Kid made it to the finals over the exhausted team NOAH team of Tiger Emperor & Makoto Hashi. The NOAH team were obviously tired, but still fought off the home team as long as they could before being put away from the tournament when Genki pinned Tiger with a big diving body press.
