KOC Round 2 Results

Round 2 of the tournament kicked off with Kensuke Sasaki totally dominating Supernova Shinsuke Nakamura. Nakamura got in some quick bursts of offense and several submission attempts, but was no match for Sasaki's power. Sasaki surprised everyone winning the match with a Shining Wizard. The second match was the dream match encounter between NOAH ace Mitsuharu Misawa and AJPW ace Keiji Mutoh, and the match more than lived up to the fans expectations! Both men went at it tooth and nail, hitting their signature moves but neither man could put the other away. Misawa even kicked out of Mutoh's moonsault! Misawa was finally able to put away Mutoh with his Emerald Frosion finisher after dropping Mutoh on his head with the Tiger Driver '91. Both men received a huge standing ovation after the match. The next match was a rematch from NOAH's Destiny Tokyo Dome show as Takeshi Rikioh faced off with Hiroshi Tanahashi of NJPW. Much like their previous encounter, Rikioh dominated Tanahashi and steam rolled right through him with his powerful offense, picking up the win with a big diving body press to advance. The next match saw Shinya Hashimoto advance over his Zero-One MAX protege Shinjiro Ohtani. Hashimoto struck hard with big kicks and heavy strikes, but Ohtani managed to hang with the big man, locking on several King Cobra attempts with Hashimoto being able to escape. Ohtani escaped Hashimoto's brainbuster DDT, but fell to Hashimoto's jumping DDT finisher. Taiyo Kea was AJPW's last hope in the tournament, but unfortunately he came up short as he was eliminated from the tournament by former IWGP champion, Hiroyoshi Tenzan. The two had a very hard and stiff contest, with Kea not being able to put Tenzan away despite hitting his trademark moves and busting Tenzan open. A bloody Tenzan fought back and hit a big moonsault after missing an earlier attempt, and clamped on the Anaconda Vice for the submission win. The next battle was a highly anticipated encounter between two of Japan's top MMA stars. The match itself was alot like an MMA fight with both competitors looking to take down their opponent and launch heavy strikes. Both men were busted open from throwing heavy leather at each other, and just as it looked like Fujita was on the verge of victory dropping heavy knees on Ogawa's head, Ogawa would escape and rear mount Fujita before pounding away at Fujita, forcing the referee to stop the match and give Ogawa the victory. The oldest competitor in the tournament, Genichiro Tenryu was next to advance as he defeated the last Zero-1 entrant left in the tournament, Masato Tanaka. Tanaka was unable to get any offense going and was put away in short order by the senior ring veteran. The main event was hard hitting encounter between two men with long past histories. Kenta Kobashi & Toshiaki Kawada put on a high sprint match with a lot of stiff strikes and hard hitting offense. Kawada battered Kobashi with kicks and a powerbomb, but Kobashi came back with some big chops and a half nelson suplex. Kobashi brutalized Kawada with a powerbomb into the corner turnbuckle and hit a big moonsault for a two count. Kobashi finally was able to put Kawada away with a big Burning Lariat to advance.
