Zero-One MAX Fire Festival Day 1 Results

The 2006 Fire Festivl kicked off it's first day with a few surprises. In the opening match of the tournament, veteran Tatsutoshi Goto defeated Kohei Sato after dropping him on his head multiple times with his trademark backdrop suplex. Sato dominated most of the match early on, but was unable to keep the veteran down, Goto eventually making a fiery comeback to beat Sato with a Boston Crab after 4 consecutive backdrop suplexes. The next match saw another upset as King's Road ace Kazushi Miyamoto defeated Takao Omori in a hard fought back and forth match. Both men traded multiple lariats and Omori seemingly had the match won, but Miyamoto rallied on and scored the big upset win with a swanton-bomb off the top. The third match saw a power battle between Masato Tanaka and Yutaka Yoshie. Despite being outsized, Tanaka went toe-to-toe with Yoshie trading stiff strikes and hard slams. Yoshie was able to kick out of the Superfly Splash, and likewise, Tanaka kicked out of Yoshie's diving body press. Tanaka managed to kick out of a running powerslam and hit the roaring elbow to earn his first points of the tournament. The main event saw a wild war between Shinjiro Ohtani and Big Mouth Loud's Kazunari Murakami. Murakami attacked the Z1M ace from the get go with hard punches and submissions, even brawling out to the floor where he attacked Ohtani with a steel chair. Ohtani persevered and battled back hitting a leg lariat and a King Cobra Hold, but Murakami was able to escape and apply a cross armbreaker. Ohtani managed to get to the ropes to break the hold and after a wild back and forth battle, was able to drop Murakami with the Spiral-bomb for the win.
