NOAH 24/09/2004 Results

The first big NOAH show is over and with some surprising results! Kobashi dominantly retained the GHC Heavyweight Title over Ikeda in just under TEN MINUTES! Ikeda started off using his speed advantage, hitting several good kicks. But Kobashi took control after countering a Daichan-Bomber into his dreaded half-nelson suplex, followed by a monster lariat! Kobashi busted out the old Orange Crush powerbomb, but Ikeda kicked out! Ikeda would make a short flurry come back, but miss two attempts at the Inazuma Leg Lariat before Kobashi regained control and put him away quickly with a hard running Lariat. The big surprise of the night came after the match as Kobashi was leaving for the back and was confronted by the returning VADER! The two starred each other down before Vader backed off, gesturing he'll be next to challenge for the title. Lack of communication was probably the reason Taue & Sano couldn't bring home the tag gold. The veteran duo failed to capitalize on several big openings, which led to their downfall. Ogawa pinning Taue after Misawa did all the work of course. The GHC Jr Heavyweight title match was a fast paced affair between two friends, but the ending surprised everyone when Kanemaru took a cheap shot low blow followed by a cover with his legs on the ropes to pin Sugiura! Kanemaru was obviously exhausted after the draining bout where Sugiura tossed him around like a ragdoll will multiple suplexes and almost had the match won with a rolling-German, but Kanemaru managed to reach the rope to break the count. Sugiura did not look happy with the way Kanemaru retained the title here. The GHC Jr tag title match was another fast paced affair which saw the champs retain belts yet again in a great back and forth bout. Can anyone stop the MaruKENTA team? On the undercard, NJPW IWGP tag team champions Yoshihiro Takayama & Minoru Suzuki made a triumphant return to NOAH, beating Jun Akiyama and Makoto Hashi after administering a brutal beating to the Sterness squad. Akiyama didn't look to be in the best of condition as he took several big knees from Takayama but managed to kick out of the Everest German! Hashi was then subjected to Takayama's wrath as Suzuki kept Akiyama at bay for the IWGP champs to get the win. WILD II thought Mohammed Yone a serious lesson in pain as the huge duo totally brutalized the youngster! Honda did what he could to salvage his team, but Yone could only take so much before finally being put away by Rikioh. A grudge match between two veterans saw a back and forth affair between Kikuchi and Aoyagi as they traded shots. Kikuchi winning out in the end after two Fireball-Bombs. In what was surprisingly voted best bout of the night, the gaijin team of Scorpio and Bison Smith overcame Akitoshi Saito and Masao Inoue when Bison hit the Bisontenial (Styles Clash) on Inoue near the last minute of the match! The two teams were pretty much dead even and it almost looked like we were in for another 30-min draw like the opener was, but this had much better work pace compared to the opener.
