Zero-One 10/28 Results

The World 01 Tournament continued today at Korakuen Hall, with the quarter-finals being played out. Show opened with the Samoan Savages, King Joe & King Adamo defeating Fugo-Fugo Yumeji & Shinsuke "Z" Yamagasa. Back and forth match that kinda went too long for my liking. Adamo picked up the win for the Savages with a big splash pin on Yumeji. Tag action again next saw a high-flying affair as Low-Ki and Vansack Acid took on Jun Kasai & Tengu Kaiser. The gaijin team looked strong in the opening minutes, but the odd-couple duo of Kaiser & Kasai fought back and Kaiser scored an upset of sorts when he pinned Low Ki with a Moonsault! Next match was a No.1 Contenders Match for Low Ki's World 01 Jr Title. Young Yoshihito Sasaki really stepped up his game here against veteran Naohiro Hoshikawa! Lots of reversals and counters in this one. Finish saw Sasaki hit a series of German-suplexes for near falls, and on the last one Hoshikawa would kick out, pop right up and run into a boot from Sasaki, and Sasaki would cover for the win! Post match, Hoshikawa congratulated Sasaki on the hard-fought win, and Sasaki promised to win the title from Low Ki. The 01 Tournament quarter-finals kicked off with Masato Tanaka facing Tatsuhito Takaiwa. This was a pretty even back and forth encounter as they traded strikes and countered each other's attempts at the Death Valley Bomb. The complexion of the match suddenly changed when Tanaka knocked Takaiwa to apron, then powerbombed him off the ring to the floor! Back in the ring, Tanaka hits a Dangan Lariat for a 2.9! he then hits a splash mountain powerbomb and gets the win. The next quarter-final match was also a bit of a shocker as Kuroge Wagyuta overcame Tetsuhiro Kuroda in a hard fought match. They brawled out of the ring several times, but Wagyuta showed alot of fire as he took the advantage with a pair of jackhammer slams, and an Oklahoma stampede! He then went up top and landed a huge elbow drop, but only got a 2.9! He then put away Kuroda with a hard powerbomb pin and advance to the semi-finals. The next quarter-final saw Kohei Sato receive a dissapointing loss to Kintaro Kanemura. Much like Ohtani the previous day, Sato just couldn't get any rhythm going and fell to Kanemura's hardcore tactics, including getting a fork jabbed in his head!Sato would kick out of Kanemura's Thunder Fire Powerbomb, but Kanemura would steal the win with a school-boy for a flash 3 count! Who would have though Steve Corino would bring in the best tournament match of the night for two nights straight? Howard dominated early on, but Corino used his craftiness to outwit the big man and they brawled to the outside frequently. Corino wins in the end putting Howard away with a jumping DDT. Post match, Corino promised he would take home the gold, because "Corino Ichiban!"
