Zero-One 10/30/04 Results

The finals to crown Zero-One's World 01 Heavyweight Champion saw some bizzare happenings unfolded throughout the night which really didn't sit well with the live crowd in attendance. The night kicked off with a big upset as Jun Kasai pinned AJPW Jr. Champion Kaz Hayashi to win a 4-man battle royal. Hayashi had a big target on his head in this match and was even busted open the hard way. How this will effect Hayashi's mentallity going into his title defence against AKIRA on 10/31 remains to be seen. Kuroge Wagyuta pulled off several big upsets on his way to the semi-finals of the tournament, but this was were his progress came to an end as he was beaten by Masato Tanaka. Wagyuta showed the same intensity and fire like he did in the preliminary matches, but was overcame by Tanaka's power, even taking a DVD on the floor at one point! Wagyuta tried to rally back, but Tanaka ducked a lariat and hit the Roaring Elbow to advance. The next semi-final saw another upset of sorts as Kintaro Kanemura overcame Steve Corino, who himself had a series of good hard-fought matches up to this point. Also surprising that neither man bled when you consider the hardcore backgrounds of the two. This was a close match as they traded heel offence such as low blows and eye rakes. Corino kicked out of Kanemura Thunder Fire powerbomb, but was put away soon after by the Fire Thunder Driver. Two wrestling veterans faced two hardcore veterans in tag action next as Shiro Koshinaka & Yoshiaki Fujiwara took on Tetsuhiro Kuroda & WMF's Mr. Gannosuke. This was a big back and forth brawl and Gannosuke even threw a fireball at Fujiwara at one point before the time limit expired, resulting in a draw. Reigning ROH heavyweight champion Samoa Joe beat "Wild Heart" Takao Omori next in a special singles match. This was arguably the best match of the night with alot of counters and big moves. Joe overwhelmed Omori with suplexes and ground holds, but Omori fought back and scored a near fall with the Guillotine Axe Driver. Finish saw Omori try for a piledriver, but Joe flipped him over into a pinning combination to pick up the win. After the match, Joe took the mic and proclaimed that he's been an undefeated ROH champion for over 18-months, yet he's almost forgotten here in Zero-One. He then issued an open challenge to the winner of the World 01 Tournament to be first in line for a title match. Low Ki successfully defended his World 01 Jr. Title against Yoshihito Sasaki next. Sasaki fought hard, but was overwhelmed by Ki's hard hitting offense. Sasaki managed to kick out of Ki's firebird splash, and even countered the Ki-Krusher and locked Ki in his Argentine backbreaker at one point. But Ki came back and locked on the Dragon Clutch for the submission victory. Shinjiro Ohtani teamed with Kazuhiko Ogasawara next and they pulled off a big upset victory over the AJPW team of Satoshi Kojima & Masanobu Fuchi, Ogasawara pinning Kojima with a high head kick! The AJPW team dominated early on, but the Zero-One teamed rallied back as they brawled out on the floor and Ohtani hit a dragon suplex to Kojima on the floor! Back in the ring, a disoriented Kojima took a big kick ot the head from Ogasawara as Ohtani held off Fuchi for their team to get the win! Matt Ghaffari & Tom Howard successfully made their first defence of the newly renamed World 01 Tag Team Titles against the ROWDY team of Kohei Sato & Hirotaka Yokoi next. The young Zero-One team put on a valiant effort, but eventually fell to Ghaffari's power and Howard's skill. Spot of the night probably was when Howard & Sato hit stereo Exploders/Urinages on each other's partners! The finals of the World 01 Tournament next left the fans in attendance scratching their heads as Kintaro Kanemura beat Masato Tanaka to be crowned the first World 01 Heavyweight Champion! These two long time rivals put on a good showing as usual, but the end saw Kanemura counter a German-suplex into a roll-up for the flash three count! Boos could be heard coming from the crowd at the outcome. As Kanemura celebrated his victory, Samoa Joe came in and starred him down gesturing he wants the title. Suddenly Shinjiro Ohtani came out and grabbed the microphone. He demanded to know what the hell Zero-One is coming too when they let outsiders beat them for their own titles, then let another outsider be first to challenge for them! He cited his victory over Kojima & Fuchi earlier as examples that Zero-One can overcome the outside threats if they get their act together. He praised Wagyuta for the progress he made in the tournament, and supported that himself, Wagyuta or Tanaka should be first to challenge for the title. Kanemura just grabbed his title belt and trophy and left as Joe stood off with Ohtani to end the show. World 01 Tournament Semi Final: Masato Tanaka beat Kuroge Wagyuta in 10:24 with a Roaring Elbow. 69% World 01 Tournament Semi Final: Kintaro Kanemura beat Steve Corino in 14:53 with a Thunder Fire Driver. 63% Shiro Koshinaka & Yoshiaki Fujiwara VS Tetsuhiro Kuroda & Mr. Gannosuke went to a 20:00 draw. 72% Samoa Joe beat Takao Omori in 16:20 with a reverse suplex pin. 85% World 01 Junior Title: Low Ki beat Yoshihito Sasaki in 11:14 with the Dragon Clutch. 62% Shinjiro Ohtani & Kazuhiko Ogasawara beat Satoshi Kojima & Masanobu Fuchi in 24:20 when Ogasawara pinned Kojima after a head kick. 83% World 01 Tag Titles: Matt Ghaffari & Tom Howard beat Kohei Sato & Hirotaka Yokoi in 17:07 when Howard submitted Yokoi with the No. 54. 64% World 01 Tournament Finals: Kintaro Kanemura beat Masato Tanaka in 15:17 with a victory roll. 67%
